CRUSOE Network joins 3DBigDataSpace project through the University of Vigo

4 Jun 2024 | History

The CRUSOE Network, through the University of Vigo, will contribute to enrich the 3DBigDataSpace project, focused on creating 3D and 4D experiences in the field of digital cultural heritage.

The participants will be Dr. Silvia García Méndez and Dr. Francisco de Arriba Pérez, two researchers from the atlanTTic research centre of the University of Vigo. They are experts in artificial intelligence, machine learning and language processing, with extensive knowledge in the design of mobile applications.

These two professionals will be responsible for creating an augmented reality environment to guide pilgrims through the different routes of the Camino de Santiago, which will enrich this world-renowned cultural route.

An initiative to digitise the past

The 3DBigDataSpace project was created with the aim of expanding the number of high quality 3D content for cultural heritage through its inclusion from different providers and aggregators.

It uses artificial intelligence to improve search capability, contextualisation and personalised reuse of content, and to process, analyse and enrich models.

The project will provide heritage and tourism companies and cultural institutions with the necessary tools to make use of these models. Its design will be accompanied by test scenarios in museums, heritage routes and local roads, as well as educational activities, so that a large number of people can use the results of 3DBigDataSpace and disseminate culture.

The project coordinator is Time Machine Organisation (Australia) in collaboration with Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Germany), In2 Digital Innovations (Germany), Stichting Europeana (The Netherlands), Inception Srl (Italy), Fondazione Bruno Kessler (Italy), Rooom Ag (Germany), The Hunt Museum (Ireland), Instytut Chemii Bioorganicznej Polskiej Akademii Nauk (Poland), Universidade de Vigo (Spain) and the partners of the Conference of Rectors of Southwest European Universities (Spain) and European Historic Houses (Belgium).
